Loop Trails Wilsede
Reaching for the summit and a glimpse into abysses
The loop trails Wilsede take nature lovers and hikers on short routes to the summit of the famous Wilseder Berg with gorgeous panoramic views and to the mystic places Totengrund and Steingrund.
W1: Reaching for the summit (3.5 km)
This beautiful loop trail through the Nature Reserve Lüneburg Heath takes you beneath old oaks, through shady woods and across open heathland to the summit of Wilseder Berg. The Heath Museum »Dat ole Huus« in Wilsede is the trailhead of this 3.5 km long trail. Wilseder Berg with its 169.2 m above sea level is the highest elevation in the North German Plain. Weather permitting you will enjoy spectacular distant views from here. The way back parallels the family adventure trail Machandel which provides you with a lot of interesting information, e.g. about the amazing relevance of Wilseder Berg to the climate, especially for the amount of precipitation and thus for nature.
W2: A glimpse into abysses (3.5 km)
The loop trail W2 » A glimpse into abysses« starts at the carriage parking area at the Heath Museum »Dat ole Huus« in Wilsede. As there are no public car parks at the trail head W1 and W2, they can only be reached by other trails. Discover the Totengrund and the Steingrund with their steep slopes and extreme valley formation. This trail leads a long stretch right along the rim. To one side woodland, to the other side the open view across the heather grown valley – stunning and beautiful!
